American internet giant Facebook has thrown its weight behind India's new IT Rules, and has said that they "make sense" while empowering users and limiting their abuse on social media, India MD Ajit Mohan has told TOI. The fresh affirmation comes months after the company termed the government's move to formulate policy and rules around content moderation as "a legitimate scrutiny", where it also emphasised that respect for Indian laws is "non-negotiable".

CBSE on Monday told the Supreme Court that optional Class 12 board examinations for students not satisfied with their assessment would be held any time between August 15 and September 15, subject to the situation being conducive. The Calcutta high court on Friday requested the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to set up a committee to examine all allegations of post-poll violence in Bengal, observing that the state hadn't taken "concrete steps" to address the 3,243 complaints lodged till June 3. Holding denial of hearing on bail plea as an infringement of the rights and liberty assured to an accused, the Supreme Court has said that timely hearing must be granted in such cases even during the pandemic. A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and V Ramasubramanian expressed shock that the Punjab and Haryana high court did not take up the bail plea for over a year. The accused approached the apex court after his request for early hearing was rejected by the HC.
