Bodies of a 30-year-old woman and her three children were found on railway tracks in Jharkhand's Palamu district on Wednesday, a police officer said. It appears that they were "accidentally" run over by a train near Nimia, around two kilometres from Daltongunj railway station, Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha said. The dead woman was identified as Manita Devi (30), a resident of Kharagpur village under Harihargunj police station of the district. Of her children, who were aged between four and eight years, two were girls. The bodies were lying scattered beside and in between the tracks. "Prima facie, it seemed to be an accident. But how they reached Medininagar which is 70 kms from Harihargunj is yet to be ascertained," Chandan Kumar Sinha said. The police informed the family about what had happened to the four. A policeman died at a hospital within hours of his arrest by the CBI on graft charges in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said. Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Billawar, was caught red-handed while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a complainant at the women police station in Kathua, where he was posted, the officials said. They said the policeman was being questioned in a separate room inside the police station by the CBI sleuths when he complained of uneasiness and was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment. However, he died at the hospital, the officials said, adding the cause of the death was not known immediately. Two persons drowned and five went missing in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district while crossing the Chambal river on their way to a temple in Rajasthan on Saturday morning, officials said. Noida Police on Friday said a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly carrying counterfeit currency notes of Rs 38,220 face value that he had printed at his residence in Delhi after taking lessons from YouTube. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit said the accused was held by officials of Badalpur police station from the GT Road near Chhapraula village following a tip-off. "The police team succeeded in arresting a man who printed fake currency notes using a printer. The accused has been identified as Abdul Raqib, who currently lives in the Ghazipur area of Delhi, and is a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar," Dixit said. The female elephant was found dead at Tiliki forest on the Ganjam-Kandhamal district border in Ghumusar North Division, an official said. The age of the animal is around 30 years, and the cause of its death could be ascertained only after post-mortem examination, said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sudarshan Behera. On Monday, forest personnel had found the carcass of a 30-year-old tusker near Gambhari Gochha village in Muzagarh forest range. Union Ministry of Home Affairs has said in Lok Sabha that over 5.5 lakh prisoners are lodged in Indian jails against a prisoner lodging capacity of 4.4 lakh, as per the latest data of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In reply to a question by Congress MP from Assam Abdul Khalique, Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra said, "National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles prison statistics reported to it by the States and Union Territories (UTs) and publishes the same in its annual publication 'Prison Statistics India'. As per the data given by the government citing the NCRB report, the total number of prisoners lodged in jails across India as on December 31, 2021 was 5,54,034 against the jail capacity of 4,25,069.
