Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Khagaria town in Bihar for cheating a Navi Mumbai resident to the tune of more than Rs 14.88 crore in a share trading cyber fraud, an official said on Friday. The Navi Mumbai police's Cyber Cell tracked down and nabbed the accused, identified as Sujitkumar Madankumar Singh, who has connections in Cambodia where he worked at call centres and duped Indian citizens in scams, he said. Senior inspector Gajanan Kadam of the Cyber Police station said an FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the new criminal code BNS and the IT Act on a complaint of the victim. According to the complainant, between January and August 2024, he was cheated of Rs 14,88,91,665 in an online share trading scam. University of Delhi on Monday said the purpose of RTI was not to satiate a third party's curiosity as it challenged the central information commission's order over disclosure of information on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree. More than four years after his arrest, a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Mumbai on Friday granted interim bail to Sagar Gorkhe, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case, to appear for his law degree exam. The 58-year-old officer, identified as Ramachandrappa, was posted as DSP in Madhugiri, they said. Twelve containers of hazardous waste - remnants from the Union carbide disaster 40 years ago are being sent to Pithampur from Bhopal in a major operation under heavy security. The toxic waste is being transported through a 250-kilometer-long green corridor, accompanied by ambulances, police vehicles, and fire brigades. Fifty police personnel from Bhopal are escorting the containers.  The Police Commissioner said the waste is being moved in keeping with the highest safety standards. An officer of the Additional Superintendent of Police-level is overseeing the transportation that started late on Wednesday evening. The 337 metric tonnes of toxic waste was stored at the abandoned Union Carbide factory in Bhopal.  It was loaded in 12 specially designed leak-proof and fire-resistant containers. China's plan to build a mega dam on the Brahmaputra could make the entire ecosystem that depends on the river fragile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned on Wednesday, adding that India has already communicated its concern to Beijing.  Last week, the Chinese government approved the construction of the world's largest hydropower dam, which can generate 60,000 MW of power, on the Yarlung Tsangpo River - the Chinese name for the Brahmaputra. Panic gripped people due to gas leakage at an industrial unit in the Vishwakarma industrial area here on Tuesday, officials said, adding no casualties occurred. The incident happened at the Ajmera gas plant where two big tankers were installed for the storage of CO2 gas. The valve of the tanker broke due to gas pressure, Assistant Fire Officer, Vishwakarma, Bhanwar Singh Hada said. He said that the situation was completely controlled by the fire brigade. The leakage led to zero visibility in the area, officials said. SHO Rajendra Sharma said gas was filled in a tanker of the plant on Saturday. He said that a police team reached the spot with fire brigade and got the main valve of the plant closed to stop the leakage.
